
In May 2018, 8,830 mercantile companies are created in Spain, 0.5% more than in the same month of 2017
According to the last figures released by National Statistics Institute (INE, Instituto Nacional de Estadística in Spanish), in May, 8,830 mercantile companies were created in Spain, 0.5% more than in the same month of 2017. The subscribed capital for their constitution exceeded 393 million euros, with an annual decrease of 2.0%. The average subscribed capital (44,601 euros) decreased by 2.5%.
On the other hand, 2,565 mercantile companies increased their capital in May, 3.7% less than in the same month of 2017. The capital subscribed in the increases recorded a 30.9% decrease and exceeded 1,598 million euros. The average capital subscribed in these transactions (623,264 euros) decreased by 28.3% in the annual rate.
The number of mercantile companies dissolved in May was 1,522, indicating 0.8% more than in the same month of 2017. Of these, 71.3% did so voluntarily, 12.0% due to mergers and the remaining 16.7% for other reasons.
Evolution of the monthly rate
In order to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of the data, the following chart shows the variation of the number of mercantile companies created and dissolved between April
and May in the last five years. In 2018, the monthly variation of the number of companies created was 0.1% and in the number of companies dissolved 2.6%.
Results by main economic activity
Of the mercantile companies created in May, 20.8% corresponded to Trade and 15.5% to Real estate, financial and insurance companies. Regarding the dissolved companies, 19.5% corresponded to Trade and 18.6% to Construction.
The activity with the greatest net balance of mercantile companies created in the month of May 2018 was Trade, with 1,539. On the contrary, Transport and storage registered the lowest net balance, with 207 companies created.
The economic activity with the greatest subscribed capital of mercantile companies created was Real estate, financial and insurance activities, with 239.17 million euros. In turn, Administrative and support service activities registered the lowest capital, with 5.03 million.
Results by Autonomous Communities
The Autonomous Communities with the greatest number of mercantile companies created in May were Comunidad de Madrid (1,949), Cataluña (1,635), and Andalucía (1,499).
In turn, those with the lowest number of mercantile companies created were La Rioja (41), Cantabria (69) and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (74). Regarding the dissolved mercantile companies, the ones that registered the highest number were Comunidad de Madrid (487), Andalucía (211) and Cataluña (128). In turn, those with the lowest number of dissolutions were Comunidad Foral de Navarra (6), La Rioja (8) and Extremadura (16).
In terms of annual variation of the number of mercantile companies created, Región de Murcia (33.2%), Castilla–La Mancha (19.5%) and Aragón (15.3%) recorded the greatest increases.
On the other hand, Illes Balears (-16.4%), Cantabria (-13.8%) and Canarias (-12.3%) presented the greatest decreases.
Regarding the mercantile companies dissolved, the highest rates were recorded in Región de Murcia (63.2%), Illes Balears (58.2%) and Canarias (17.6%). In turn, those with the highest decreases were Comunidad Foral de Navarra (-50.8%), Cantabria (-32.0%) and Aragón (-27.8%).
