Spain: The annual rate of the Industrial Production Index stands at -2.6%

The annual rate of the Industrial Production Index stands at -2.6% in the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects and at -2.8% in the original series, according to the last figures released by INE.

Monthly evolution of industrial production

The monthly variation of the Industrial Production Index (IPI) between the months of November and October, after adjusting for seasonal and calendar effects, was -1.5%. This rate is 2.6 points lower than that observed in October.

General Industrial Production Index

All sectors showed negative monthly rates. It is worth highlighting the decrease in Capital goods (−1.8%) followed by Intermediate goods (−1.7%).

Annual evolution of industrial production

The Industrial Production Index, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, recorded a variation rate of -2.6% in November, as compared to the same month of the previous year. This rate is 3.3 points lower than that observed in October.

The original series of the IPI experienced an annual variation of -2.8%. This rate is 6.5 points lower than that of October. All sectors showed negative annual rates. It is worth highlighting the decrease in Energy(−5.6%) followed by Intermediate goods (−3.0%).

Results by Autonomous Communities.

The annual rate of industrial production increased as compared to November 2017 in four Autonomous Communities and decreased in the other 13.

The largest decreases were recorded in Extremadura (-19.4%), Región de Murcia (-11.2%) and Illes Balears (-10.7%). The largest increases were recorded in Comunitat Valenciana (3.9%), Comunidad de Madrid (3.6%) and Castilla – La Mancha (2.9%).

Review and update of data

Coinciding with today’s publication, the INE has updated the data of the IPI series corresponding to the last two months. In the case of the series adjusted for calendar effects and for seasonal and calendar effects, the series is revised from the beginning, following the INE standard. The results are available at INEBase.
